The little chickadee grabbed her Dad's headphones one day and (I am biased) I thought it was the most adorable thing when she put it on.
This got me wondering if headphones are even good for children at all. I went surfing around and there are indeed quite a selection of headphones out there made specifically for children. Obviously, they are either colorful or with a popular cartoon character.
Instead of going for the chic-est looking pair of headphones, here are a few pointers (I found from a website) which can serve as a guide on how to purchase headphones for your kids.
1) Make sure it fits correctly. Small kids = small heads
2) Sound Limiting Technology. Make sure the maximum volume is controlled
3) Durability. Kids will always find ways to wear down a gadget.
4) Light weight. It doesn't have to be heavy to be good. It's not gold.
It is advised that usage is to be kept to a few hours a day.
Thanks to this statement - "Steady sound, even through sound limiting technology headphones or ear buds, can produce damage to their hearing that can appear later in life" , I personally am holding off purchasing one for the kid.
